I think by now you all heard about Tokyo Olympic Chief Yoshiro Mori and his sexist comment about how reunions with women take too much time.
Which is bad. Very bad. But what I found interesting is how the Japanese media related the whole thing at first. For example, when I first saw the news via NHK, the tagline when looking at it via LINE (image above) said: “In Japan too there (are people) pointing out / How other countries are reporting it?”
My first question was; why is there a “too”? I cannot help but feel that it meant; “the indignation in other countries is normal but in Japan too, people weren’t happy about that comment”.
Then there’s is the whole “how other countries are reporting it?” part of the tagline, which makes me feel that more than talking about wrong the comment is, Japan is more concerned about how the rest of the world sees it.
